Here's my subjective evaluation of each of the primary weapons in LWM5 after fairly extensive testing.

(I also tested the sidearms, but found no pistols that truly stand out. For CQB missions against unarmored tangos (such as map 2) I prefer the Mossberg loaded with buckshot, otherwise just carry whatever tickles your fancy.)

Favorite silenced SMGs/machine pistols:
(tested on Map 1)

Favorite CQB weapons:
(tested in Killhouse)

Favorite battle rifles:
(tested on Map 13)

Favorite sniper rifles:

Accuracy Int'l AWM SD -- I generally prefer semi-auto sniper rifles, but this bolt-action rifle can be reloaded so fast that it's pretty danged useful. Its 8.6x70mm ammo penetrates nicely.

Armscor BXP: 9mm machine pistol with a high rate of fire. As with almost all 9mm weapons, it's not very effective against heavily armored foes.

Beretta PM-12S: A below average 9mm SMG.

Beryl KBK and KBS: Quite effective against all armor types, but not as accurate as some others. There's something cool about the way they sound when fired.

Bofors AK5B: An okay battle rifle with a nice scope.

CIS SAR21: Bizarre-looking bullpup with a nice short aim time and decent zoom, but seems to have less power than the Enfield or Aug A1.

CIS Ultimax 100: Possibly the least fun to shoot of all the LMGs, it does have a slightly better than average aim time for its class.

Calico M960: Unsuitable against heavy armor, but 100 rounds per mag makes it just the thing for laying the smack down on unarmored tangos.

Colt 635: 9mm SMG that seems to have slightly more penetrating power than the MP5's. Also has a nice reflex sight with decent zoom.

Colt M4: Penetration seems to be on the weak side, and there's nothing else to make this weapon stand out from the crowd.

CZ 58V: Loud, powerful, with a nice scope and fast aim time, it's well suited to combat at any but the longest ranges.

CZ Model 2000: Less powerful than the 58V, no scope and more recoil, but still not bad.

Daewoo K1A1: Good CQB weapon with enough punch to get through heavy armor.

DS ARMS SA58 OSW: Plenty of power and maneuverable enough for CQB, a scope and a silencer would have made this rifle near perfect.

Enfield L85A1: In the unmodified game it's one of my favorite assault rifles for general use. Lloyd gave it a spiffy new reticle but didn't fix what wasn't broken. Pretty nice.

FAMAE SAF: 9mm machine pistol limited to 3-round bursts. If you treat it like you would a pistol, it can actually be pretty effective.

FAMAS F2: The high rate of fire will make you wish it had a much bigger clip, and it really could use a scope. At least the sights aren't as wacky as they are on the real thing :) However, set it on 3-shot burst and the silenced version is very effective at close to medium ranges.

FN FAL: A decent battle rifle, but the lack of a scope really cuts down on its usefulness.

FN M249 SAW: An LMG is not the most practical weapon in Rogue Spear. This one has the fastest aim time of any of them, but it's still much slower than anything but a heavy sniper rifle.

FN M249 SPW: Slightly slower to aim than the SAW, but has a nice scope. It's not the best choice when you're going to be running around.

FN P90: Best at close to medium ranges, it'll burn through those 50-round mags in a big hurry. Penetration is okay against all armor types, but it's not as lethal at it should be. At least the silenced version seems to be no weaker than the standard one.

Franchi SPAS-12: Buckshot seems to be more effective than slugs, but neither is much against against the heavily armored.

Groza OTS-14-4A: It has slightly more punch than the Thunderstorm, but it's quite loud and has no scope.

Groza Thunderstorm: It's relatively quiet, has a nice scope and is suitable against any armor type for anything from CQB to sniping. 9x39mm AP is the most effective against armor, while 7.62 hollow points are very deadly against unarmored targets.

HK 21E: A rather slow and heavy LMG, its main advntage seems to be lower recoil than some of the others. Just don't turn, walk or especially run, and you'll be fine.

HK 53A3: Somewhere between an SMG and battle rifle, it's got a modest zoom, decent aim time and decent penetration.

HK G3A3ZF: It's both battle rifle and sniper rifle. Slow aim time makes it unsuitable for CQB but it's pretty nice otherwise.

HK G36K: A good all-around assault rifle. Zoom is a bit shorter than the unmodified version, which makes it just right for general combat but a bit short for sniping.

HK MP10: Load it up with .224 BOZ rounds and you won't even have to limit yourself to unarmored tangos. The silencer is extremely effective, but it does noticeably reduce penetration. The only thing missing is a scope, but the scoped MP5 variants in this mod aren't any good, so deal with it.

HK MP5A3: It's got a scope but not very accurate and has no silencer.

HK MP5SD6: Scope and a silencer, but its accuracy is so poor the scope isn't useful. And even if you choose .40 cal ammo it's not ready for armored targets.

HK MSG90-SD: Very quiet semi-auto sniper that'll bring down any tango in one or two shots. It's so silent you can successfully use it as a primary weapon on a one-man terrorist hunt in the museum. That often annoying two-stage zoom is actually useful on this one, too.

HK PSG1: Good semi-auto sniper rifle with no trouble penetrating heavy armor.

HK UMP45: A poor compromise between an SMG and an assault rifle. It doesn't penetrate well and isn't very fast or accurate.

HAR15A2 SD: A quiet semi-auto sniping pistol, which seems like a good idea executed badly. Its penetration is so poor that head shots won't even reliably bring down an armored tango, and its scope is too powerful to effectively use in places like the museum.

IMI Galil ARM: Loud, powerful, nice assault rifle. 7.62 ammo performs a little better than 5.56. Very similar to the CZ58V but the reticle is a little weird. The CZ subjectively feels a little better though this carries 5 more rounds per mag.

IMI Galil MAR: Loud but otherwise excellent CQB weapon. One wishes it had a scope though.

Izhmash AN94 Abakan: Another battle rifle nearly ruined by lack of scope. Also seems to have a tendency to go really wild unless you wait for the reticle to close in ALL the way, and high ROF means you empty a clip too quickly for comfort.

Izhmash Bizon 2/3: 9mm Makarov SMG with weaker than normal penetration, but lots of ammo in each clip. The 3 is the silenced version.

Jatimatic: A 9mm pistol that performs well overall. Not much zoom, but enough to get the job done. Don't use against armored targets though.

Keppeler KSIII: Bullpup bolt-action sniper rifle with excellent penetration using 7.62 rounds. The other ammo types are less effective.

KLIN KEDR: Very small, very loud, wildly innacurate 9mm Makarov machine pistol. Kind of fun to try, but not very effective.

Knights SR25K SD: Nice and quiet with plenty of power, it's full-auto and doesn't need to be. Not quite a sniper rifle but it can be used as such in a pinch. Despite the length, it's not awkward at all. The non-silenced version is awfully loud but is still a nice weapon.

Knights SR25M SD: Extremely quiet semi-auto sniper. One or two shot kills against any armor type. Good choice.

Krinkov: A very short AK variant, good for CQB. Caliber doesn't seem to matter.

La France M16K: The Olympic K3B fills the same niche and does it better.

Mauser SP66: Bolt-action rifle that doesn't reliably penetrate medium or heavy armor. Bad idea.

Mekanika Uru: 9mm SMG with low penetrating power, might be just the thing against unarmored opponents though.

Neosted 2000: Funky bullpup shotgun. Not good against armored opponents though buckshot does seem to be generally more effective than slugs.

Olympic K23B: Average CQB weapon with fast aim time but not a lot of accuracy. The best ammo choice for armor penetration seems to be .45 FMJ.

Robar SR90: Below average bolt-action rifle. Not a guaranteed kill unless you go for the head.

Saco M60E3: A light machine gun that does its job -- suppressive fire -- well. Meaning that it sprays all over the place, and good luck hitting a man-sized target who's actually standing in front of you. But it's fun to play with :)

Sako-Valmet M90: A decent all-around assault rifle. It seems to penetrate slightly better with the 5.56 ammo.

Sig SG550 Sniper: This would be a nice gun if only it had penetrating power. Head shots are good, otherwise you might not be able to kill a lightly armored tango with two or three shots.

Sig SG551 SWAT: Incredible rifle with fast aim time, nice scope, excellent power... if there was a silenced version that'd be perfect.

SIMA-CEFAR MGP-84: 9mm machine pistol that doesn't seem very lethal even to unarmored tangos.

Spectre M4: Not to be confused with the Colt M4. .45 machine pistol with a 50 round clip, which seems to be made for spraying a room indiscriminately. A fun thing to have in CQB, even though it doesn't penetrate heavy armor as easily as you'd think.

Springfield M14: Don't confuse this with the unmodified M14. This one has iron sights only, which is a shame. Its performance in full-auto seems to be much improved though, making it an interesting gun despite the zoom limitation.

Springfield M25: A nice semi-auto rifle. Accurate, fairly quick aim time for a sniper, and every hit is a kill.

Steyr Aug A1: Very nice all around. For some reason the SD version has a slightly higher rate of fire (still nice and low and controllable) and you get to carry 6 mags instead of 5.

Steyr Aug 9: For a 9mm gun it's got decent penetration. Maybe a slightly faster aim time than the A1, but not much... and it also carries less ammo per clip. Use the A1.

Stoner 86: Somewhere between an SMG and an LMG, this one has plenty of power, decent accuracy, and a fast aim time. Heavy armor is no problem. Loud, but nice.

Type 64: 7.62 machine pistol that's relatively silent, but has little penetrating power. A notch better than the Type 79 but there's no compelling reason to pick this over an MP5.

Type 79: A disappointing 7.62 machine pistol. It's loud and at close range it can take a full clip to kill a moderately armored tango.

Uralsk Kiparis: 9mm machine pistol with very little penetrating power. You can empty half a clip into a lightly armored tango without killing him. There's better stuff out there.

Vektor CR21: Curvaceous bullpup rifle that doesn't perform as well as it looks. The reflex sight gives it a very short zoom, and while it's pretty accurate it doesn't seem to have the power of a Steyr or Enfield.

Vektor R6: Short, loud rifle best used in CQB. A short burst is deadly at medium range to moderately armored targets, but at longer ranges it doesn't have much penetrating power.

VSK-94 Sniper SD: As sniper weapons go this one isn't very accurate, though it's good enough for most purposes. With subsonic rounds, a single shot will take out a lightly armored target and a single head shot will take out anyone. Armor piercing rounds are much more effective, often taking out heavily armored targets in one or two shots, and (subjectively) don't seem to be much louder. The real benefit to this gun is it's light, quiet, fully automatic, can be aimed quickly, and you can use it as effectively in CQB as in sniping.

ZM LR-300: Average battle rifle with below-average penetration.

Barrett 82A1 (single-player only): Huge sniper rifle. Very heavy barrel, takes forever for the reticle to close in. Instantly fatal (try lining up 7 guys in heavy armor and killing them all with one shot). Also has HE rounds available. You're better off with the CAWS for explosives or a lighter rifle for sniping.

Olin-HK CAWS (single-player only): Combat shotgun with ammo choices that make it something other than "just another shotgun." SLAP rounds are fatal against all armor types at close to medium range.

Using HE rounds, it may help to think of the CAWS as a rocket launcher. Extremely effective against all armor types at medium to long distances (though the zoom is short). Ideal for terrorist hunts when there are no innocents to worry about. But be very careful with this thing in close quarters or when the enemy manages to get right in your face... it's easy to stun or kill yourself with this monster.
